February Online Community Café – Becoming Australian

Standard

Dear Community Café friends,

Our next Online Community Café will be Wednesday 3 February at 7:00pm.  Our topic is: Becoming Australian – how do we and the country change through engagement with each other?

We would like to kick off the 2021 Community Café Dialogues with a reflection on our personal connections with Australia as Country and Community. Becoming Australian is more than taking up citizenship (whether you were born with it, took it up later or never intend to do so), it is about how Australia and its millennia-old cultures and lands have influenced you and how your presence and identity has connected with this land and enriched it. It is a discussion about the relationship between First Nations Australians and Settler Peoples and how we personally fit into this relationship and find our own place. Don’t be afraid to share your stories and experiences, everyone’s voice is part of the collective story of Becoming Australian.

October Online Community Café – Boundaries

Standard

Dear Community Café friends,

Our next Online Community Café will be Wednesday 7 October at 7:00pm.  Our topic is: Boundaries

Boundaries are an important topic of conversation at the moment. Control over physical boundaries is constantly in the news, social distancing keeping us safe and the opening and closing of the boarder to keep people in (and out!).  Other boundaries may be mental and self imposed, the boundary between work and home life for example.  Constructing and tearing down boundaries both physical and imagined have a big impact on our lives.  Come along to the next Online Community Café to discuss how you are impacted by boundaries.

July Online Community Café – Environmental Impacts of COVID-19

Standard

Hello!

Thank you for your feedback about our new Online Community Café Dialogues. Many of you are keen to continue the conversation about politics and community in our new online forum. We are now meeting on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm. The online café will only be one hour.

Our next Online Community Café is Wednesday 1 July 7:00pm. Our topic is: Environmental Impacts of COVID-19.

As we return to pre-COVID conditions what has changed for you and your relationship with the environment? We will consider small and large changes to our everyday life and what that means for the environment. Single use items have become much more common and acceptable. International travel has stopped but local travel has become much more individual. How can we protect ourselves and the environment in this new socially distanced world? Come share your view with us.

Community Café Dialogues go online

Standard

To all our loyal Community Café followers,

after two successful smaller trials we have decided to move our Community Café Dialogues programme online. This allows us to organise further Community Cafés in a time where social distancing and prevention of the spread of COVID-19 are paramount.

We also hope that this will provide opportunities for new participants to join the Community Café Dialogues without having to come to inner Brisbane. We are currently redesigning the process and will send out an email soon asking for your input for exciting topics and issues to discuss this year.

Please make sure that your email address is up-to-date and watch out for our announcements soon. See you at the next Café in July 2020!

22 May Virtual Community Café – Caring and Connections between Generations

Standard

Hello!

We are back and online!  Join us for a virtual Community Café to discuss: Caring and Connections between Generations on Friday 22 May at 5:30pm.  We will be meeting via zoom.  All you need to join is a computer with a camera and microphone and a comfy place at home.

During this time of isolation it has been difficult to care for those that we love when they are far away. Relationships with those close to us (in our household) have also changed.  How have you managed your relationships with family? What steps have you taken to connect with those near and far?  Come discuss the benefits and challenges of this difficult time.
